Baldur’s Gate 3 Illithid or Tadpole Powers Guide

Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate is a series of famous role-playing video games set in the Forgotten Realms Dungeons & Dragons campaign. In this series, two different storylines exist: The Legend of the Egg of Baal and the Dark Alliance. The Balsporn Saga takes place primarily in the heart of the West, but also extends to Amn and Tethyr.

The console version of the Dark Alliance series was a critical and commercial success. Developed by BioWare, Bhaalspawn Saga has been critically acclaimed for its pauseable, real-time gameplay, breathing new life into the computer role-playing game (CRPG) genre.

In 2012, Atari announced a high-definition remake of the Bhaalspawn Saga by Beamdog and Overhaul Games. Additionally, Black Isle Studios is planning a third series set in Vale, offering a PC-exclusive hack-and-slash experience and pauseable real-time gameplay. Unfortunately, the project was canceled when Interplay transferred the Dungeons & Dragons PC license to Atari.

The series enjoyed a renaissance in 2012 with the launch of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, an updated version of the original Baldur’s Gate powered by the enhanced Infinity Engine.

This marked the series’ return after an eight-year hiatus, followed by the launch of an enhanced version of Baldur’s Gate II called Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition. Beamdog received permission to develop new games under the license, resulting in the development of two projects codenamed Adventure Y and Adventure Z. Adventure Y was later revealed as Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear, an expansion pack for Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition.

“Baldur’s Gate III” is the latest work in the series, developed by Larian Studios and released in August 2023.

Baldur’s Gate 3 plot

In the year 1492 DR, more than 120 years have passed since the events of “Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn”, and several months have passed since the events of “Baldur’s Gate: The Fall of Avernus”. Dark forces are rising again. The player character, whose name is chosen by the player, finds himself captured by the Mind Flayers, a powerful race of creatures.

These mind flayers are invading Faerûn and implanting illithid tadpoles into the protagonist and others, parasitic creatures that take over their hosts and transform them into mind flayers.

Before the transformation could occur, however, their nautilus ship was attacked by Githyanki warriors and red dragons, leading them on a chaotic escape through various realms, including Avernus, the first level of the Nine Hells. In the chaos, the protagonist is freed and manages to pilot the damaged ship back to Faerûn, where it crash-lands.

As the protagonists work to find a way to rid themselves of the parasite, they encounter other survivors of the crash: Gael, a human wizard; Shadowheart, a half-elf priest; Astarion, a high elf rogue; Er, the human sorcerer; and Raziel, the Githyanki warrior. Together they tackle the challenges and mysteries of the future.
