Blue Files gameplay

In the tactical role-playing game Blue Archive, you can form a team of up to six students, including two “Special Forces” and four “Forward”, to perform various military missions. These students can become stronger by upgrading and improving their weapons, armor, and skills. You can recruit more students using the gacha system as well as in-game currency that can be purchased through in-app purchases.

In combat, your units move around a turn-based hexagonal map, and combat begins when they encounter an enemy. The vanguard follows a straight path, occasionally encountering hordes of enemies. They launch automatic attacks and can hide behind objects to avoid being hit. Special Forces do not fight directly, but enhance the capabilities of the forwards and provide support from the rear.

During combat, you can use your students’ skills, which require renewable currency. Both students and enemies have rock-paper-scissors strengths and weaknesses on offense and defense. If a student loses all health, he or she will need a helicopter rescue and will be unable to participate in subsequent battles.

Blue profile picture

The Blue Files unfolds against the unique backdrop of Kivotos, an academic city formed by the merger of many academies. The city is made up of different districts, with the Head Student Council having the highest authority in the Sanctuary Tower, where all student records can be accessed. Before the game begins, the president summons players known as teachers to provide advice to the outlaw organization she founded, Schale. However, her mysterious disappearance leads to an increase in criminal activity and military presence.

The plot begins with a conversation between the teacher and the student council president, who reveals that they are the only hope of saving Kivotos from the impending disaster. Soon after, Vice Principal Rin wakes up the teachers and tells them about their mission to help the city’s students. The president is missing, creating uncertainty. As the story unfolds, the teacher meets various students, such as Yuka from the Millennium Science Academy. Players can explore Kivotos and follow the narrative.

The main story is divided into volumes, each focusing on a specific school group and divided into chapters. Currently, there are four story volumes, as well as a “final” volume that connects all the stories, but is not the final conclusion to the game’s entire storyline.

blue archives review

The Blue Files has received mixed reviews since its release. Many players praised its engaging tactical gameplay, cute character designs, and ability to collect a variety of students for their team. The turn-based combat and strategy elements received positive feedback.

Overall, Blue Archive provides an enjoyable gaming experience for those who enjoy tactical RPGs and character collecting, but it may not be for everyone due to its gacha mechanics and some story aspects.
