The journey of Splatoon 3 began with the trailer released on February 17, 2021, which aroused the expectations of game enthusiasts. The game was officially released on September 9, 2022. Initial reviews for Splatoon 3 have been generally positive, praising its enhanced maps, engaging single-player campaign, diverse customization options, and innovative gameplay mechanics. However, it has also faced criticism over matchmaking and disconnection issues, as well as concerns over the scarcity of new content.

The heart of Splatoon 3 lies in its ink-based combat system, which allows players to fight using a variety of ink-based weapons. Unique to the game is the ability to transform into a squid and swim in ink of his team’s colors, providing strategic advantages both offensively and defensively. This innovative mechanic has always been a hallmark of the Splatoon series, resulting in its unique gameplay.

Splatoon 3 offers a powerful multiplayer experience, allowing players to compete against each other in player versus player (PvP) matches. Vibrant and colorful arenas (called maps) serve as battlegrounds, where teams compete for dominance by covering the environment with team ink. The game’s success is attributed to its engaging multiplayer mode, which promotes competition and teamwork among players.

This single-player adventure takes players through a captivating story that uncovers the mysteries of the Splatoon universe. The campaign is designed to provide players with a unique and challenging experience, incorporating elements that are different from the fast pace of multiplayer combat.

Customization plays a big role in Splatoon 3, allowing players to personalize their Inkling characters with a variety of clothing, accessories, and weapons. This feature enhances players’ connection with their avatar and adds a layer of personality to the gaming experience. The game’s success in capturing player creativity was highlighted as a positive.

As of December 31, 2023, “Splatoon 3” has achieved great commercial success, with global sales reaching 11.71 million copies. This impressive sales figure makes it the fastest-selling game in the Splatoon series and ranks among the best-selling Nintendo Switch games. The game’s commercial success highlights its popularity among players and its impact on the gaming community.

Overall, Splatoon 3 continues the Splatoon series’ tradition of engaging gameplay, innovative inking combat, and a blend of multiplayer and single-player experiences. While it was well received for various elements, including maps, customization, and single-player campaign, some issues were identified. Nonetheless, its commercial success solidified Splatoon 3’s status as an important and influential addition to the Nintendo Switch library.

How many levels are there in Side Order in Splatoon 3?

In Splatoon 3’s Side Order DLC, players will embark on a challenging climb up the Tower of Order with the goal of conquering each floor. Want to know the exact number of floors you need to conquer for a successful run? Let’s dig into the details.

Splatoon 3: Side Order introduces the Spire of Order, which has 30 floors. Successfully completing a run requires the player to navigate and clear all 30 levels before losing their last life. Throughout the climb, players will encounter a mix of standard floors and boss floors, with the latter appearing every 10 floors. As players advance, they encounter vending machines that offer the opportunity to use Membux and Keys, two essential elements marked on the game map.

While the goal of Splatoon 3’s Side Order DLC is to clear 30 floors, it’s important to realize that these floors are not fixed during the campaign. Instead, each run generates uniquely designed floors with different layouts, objectives, hazards, and more. This variability ensures that each run offers a unique experience and no two runs are mirror images of each other.

To add to the dynamics of each run, players are faced with choices as they approach new floors, choosing from three options almost every time. Even though the floors of the Spire of Order have a fixed design, the selection mechanism introduces a huge amount of variability, allowing players to navigate the tower in a variety of ways. This aspect greatly improves the high replayability of the single-player Splatoon 3 campaign, ensuring that completing a run does not mark the end of the player’s engagement with the DLC.

It’s worth noting that if a player uses up their last life before reaching level 30, they will be expelled from the Spire of Order and need to start over. However, not all progress is lost, as any Slices and Membux accumulated before your unfortunate death will be converted into Prlz. This currency has proven to be very valuable for getting permanent upgrades from Marina in Splatoon 3. These upgrades include extra lives, pearl drone enhancements, and more, giving players an edge on subsequent runs and facilitating their journey to conquer the top of the Spire.

Splatoon 3 gameplay

Splatoon 3 follows in the footsteps of previous games in the series and is a third-person shooter where players can choose between an Inkling or an Octoling as their character. The main feature of the game is the use of various weapons with colored ink as ammunition.

Players can choose from different weapons, each with unique abilities and appearance. For example, the roller acts as a large paint roller, covering important areas with ink, but is most effective in close combat. A submachine gun, on the other hand, is similar to a sniper rifle, with the ability to snipe opponents from a distance, but is less efficient at clearing the ground. Splatoon 3 introduces new primary, secondary, and special weapons, expanding the arsenal of weapons available to players.

Primary weapons can be selected by the player, secondary weapons are paired with the primary weapon as secondary options and consume more ink, and special weapons are tied to specific primary weapons and require the player to cover the ground with varying amounts of ink to charge them. Inklings and Octolings both have the unique ability to transform into squid or octopus forms, known as “swimming forms”. This form allows them to climb ink-covered walls and swim in ink faster than their humanoid form.

Inkling and Octoling weapons come with limited ink ammo, which the player can refill faster than in humanoid form by submerging themselves in ink using swimming form. The game retains the essence of its predecessor, bringing back all the basic weapons from the earlier Splatoon games.

All in all, Splatoon 3 continues the series’ compelling third-person shooter experience, giving players a choice between Inklings and Octolings with unique abilities. A diverse range of weapons, including newly added weapons, adds strategic depth to the gameplay. The revolutionary swimming form offers unique movement options, and the inclusion of familiar weapons ensures continuity with beloved elements from previous Splatoon games.

Splatoon 3 plot

Following old squid Craig Cuttlefish into a crater filled with dangerous furry ooze, players are recruited by Cuttlefish as new squid-mouthed Splatoon 3 agents, accompanied by their salmon pet Smallfry. Smallfry has the ability to consume and eliminate some ooze, allowing it to penetrate deeper into the crater. Inside, they face the fur-mutated Octa enemies, whom Squid suspects are behind the theft of the Great Zapfish, Sprattsville’s energy source.

At the bottom of the crater, Octarian leader DJ Octavio blames Squid for taking away his warriors and denies involvement in Zapfish’s disappearance. After Octavio’s defeat, the ground began to cave in, and Squid and Agent 3 crashed into the ruins of the dungeon city of Altena and were transformed into a base by the vague Octavian.

In Altena, Agent 3 meets Carly and Marie from the new Squidward Jet Squad, as well as Captain, the protagonist from the first game. After discovering that the cuttlefish is missing, they meet the idol group Deep Cut, who believe that both are searching for the treasure in Altna.

Aided by an artificial intelligence called ORCA, they explore the city in pursuit of the cuttlefish and constantly receive signals from Deep Cut, leading to a confrontation over the seemingly worthless “treasure.” It is revealed that Mr. Grizz, the CEO of Grizzco and the organizer of Salmon Run, kidnapped Cuttlefish, captured the Great Zapfish, and commanded the Octarian army. Mr. Grizz’s goal is to use Fuzzy Ooze to transform life into mammals, with the aim of restoring mammalian life on Earth.

After defeating all members of Deep Cut, their true intention of selling the treasure for charity is revealed. They team up with Splatoon to fight Mr. Grizzly. They used the treasure to create a cutting device and reached the rocket in the center of Altena, where the squid was being held.

To their dismay, Mr. Grizzi “dehydrates” the cuttlefish to get his “essence.” Mr. Grizz reveals his plan to explode rockets, cover the Earth in fuzzy ooze, and resurrect mammals at the expense of other life forms. Cap revived the cuttlefish with his tears, while Deep helped Agent 3 use tamed eels and sharks to reach the rocket. With the support of DJ Octavio and Smallfry, Agent 3 defeated Mr. Grizz and destroyed Rocket.
