How to Defeat Gibdos in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

How to defeat Gibbdos in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

Attempting to engage the Gibdor using traditional melee weapons or arrows is futile. These powerful opponents possess impenetrable defenses that negate regular attacks and arrows, dealing only 1 point of damage. Fortunately, Gibdos exhibit vulnerability to elemental powers such as fire and lightning.

Even bomb arrows, which are a combination of bomb flowers and arrows, can incapacitate them. Once struck by an elemental attack, Gibdo will fall to the ground, losing its vivid coloring. In this fragile state, it is vulnerable to damage from melee weapons and arrows. Seize the opportunity quickly and attack with the Y button before it regains its footing.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to defeat Gibdo,

  • Press the ZL button to aim your sights at Gibdo.
  • Hold the ZR button to ready the bow.
  • While holding the ZR button, navigate up on the directional pad.
  • Use the R joystick to select items infused with fire or lightning (e.g. Yellow Chuchu Jelly, Fire Fruit) or Bomb Flowers.
  • Lock Gibdo as the target and release the arrow.
  • When Gibdor collapses and its skeletal structure appears white, approach it immediately and deliver the final blow with a standard melee weapon.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Gibdo Boss Guide

The initial phase of the battle is similar to your previous encounter with Queen Gibdo outside the temple. Your goal is to dodge her attacks, use elemental attacks to break through her armor, and attack her quickly when she’s vulnerable to deal maximum damage before she recovers. Once enough damage is done, a cutscene will trigger, signaling the start of the second phase.

During this phase, four Gibdor lairs scattered across the arena become active, heightening the challenge you face in combat. Managing this second phase presents significant challenges. The Queen’s attacks become more powerful, with larger tornadoes and dive attacks. It is crucial to remain constantly vigilant about her every move.

Your first priority should be to eliminate at least one hive. Doing so will reveal a pillar of light, which will automatically remove the Gibdos’ armor and weaken them, making them easier to destroy. Pillars don’t directly affect the queen, but taking out some hives can make the fight much easier.

Unfortunately, the newfound light pillar blocks your view of the boss, as she becomes hard to spot in the glow. To overcome this problem, it is recommended to destroy some or all of the hives and then concentrate only on the queen. Assuming you have solid armor, the small Gibbodos will deal minimal damage, allowing you to closely stalk the boss throughout the arena.

The key to victory is knowing how to incapacitate the Gibdo Queen, temporarily stunning her. If you manage to hit her with one of Riju’s Lightning Bolts while she’s already weakened, the likelihood of stunning her increases significantly. This provides an excellent opportunity to deal damage with close range weapons. By working hard to clear out the Gibdos and consistently keeping the boss weak, you’ll have a good chance of winning. If you are low on health or armor, be careful and only approach Queen Gibdo when she is incapacitated by a bolt of Riju’s lightning.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gameplay

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom retains many of the charming elements that made its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, so popular. Hyrule’s vast open world setting has been further expanded, giving players the freedom to explore vertically, soar into the skies or delve deep into underground caves. Innovations in game mechanics abound, such as the introduction of the “fusion” ability, which allows Link to merge with specific objects and assume multiple forms, such as a giant boulder or a majestic tree.

Players once again take on the role of the heroic Link, teamed up with the indomitable Zelda, as they unite to stop an ominous evil intent on destroying Hyrule. During the arduous journey, they will encounter new opponents and powerful bosses, each of which requires careful strategy and a unique method of victory.

A wide variety of weapons and gear awaits your discovery, each with unique properties and advantages that require wise inventory management to withstand the rigors of combat. A defining feature of Kingdom Tears’ gameplay is an unfettered sense of liberation and agency. Players have the power to traverse the vast lands of Hyrule at their own pace, without being restricted by predefined routes or objectives.

Puzzles and challenges are revealed with countless solutions, creating a highly personalized gaming experience in which each player weaves a unique adventure story. One big difference, unlike Breath of the Wild, is the inclusion of more traditional dungeons.
