The single-player campaign consists of linear missions and open-world missions called “Open Combat Missions”. In these games, players can approach their targets more freely, choosing between open combat, stealth, or ambush tactics. On-screen map aids navigation, showing objectives and important equipment locations.
In multiplayer, all 16 maps in Modern Warfare II are available, with the option to vote for the maps in the lobby. Player health increases during long battles, and the “red dot” minimap returns, showing enemies on the radar when they fire without a suppressor. Classic modes like “Kill Confirmed” and “Hardpoint” return, while a new mode called “Cutthroat” features three teams of three players. Ground War and War modes offer diverse gameplay on a variety of maps.
The game introduces a PvE Zombies mode developed by Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games, with an open world for up to 24 players, AI-controlled enemies, and objectives to complete.
