The story takes place in a city called Krat, where puppets are created using a powerful energy source called Ergo found underground in the city. These puppets became commonplace and performed much of the city’s work. The famous inventor Geppetto created Pinocchio. To make sure the puppets don’t harm humans, they create rules called the “Grand Covenant” that prevent them from lying or harming humans. One day, however, they rebelled and harmed many of Krat’s humans.
Not only does Krat face a puppet problem, he also faces a mysterious fatal disease called petrification. It blinds people, turns them into horrific monsters, and causes a lot of pain.
