The storyline consists of Kasuga Ichiban, the protagonist of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Kazuma Kiryu, the protagonist of the original series. The game unfolds in the new location of Hawaii as well as the familiar setting of Japan. Kasuga and Kiryu team up to help Haruhi find and reunite with her mother in Hawaii while Kiryu battles cancer. The game promises a gripping single-player role-playing experience, with a mix of old and new characters.

Kiryu’s job allows him to switch between fighting styles and engage in real-time combat, reminiscent of previous Yakuza games. The Poundmates summoning system returns, featuring familiar characters like Shun Akiyama and Kaoru Sayama. The game introduces new mini-games as well as classics like karaoke and darts, including Delivery Crazy, inspired by Sega’s Crazy Taxi, Sujimon Battle, a parody of Pokémon, and Kasuga’s dating app Miss Match.

A major side activity called Happy Resort Dondoko Island involves Kasuga managing her own resort, combining resource gathering, crafting, and social interaction. Kiryu has his side project “bucket list” focused on reuniting with his friends from the previous Yakuza games. The game combines combat, mini-games and side activities, promising a diverse and engaging gameplay experience.
