In Salt and Sacrifice, the gameplay is inspired by the Dark Souls series. The game world is divided into five different areas, and players need to consume mage hearts and conduct mage hunts to unlock new areas and face challenging boss characters. Defeating these mages will reward players with unique armor and weapons. Each weapon has its own special skills and moves. As players explore, they will discover hidden tomes that trigger a hunt for the Mage of Destiny, allowing them to collect specific upgrades.
The game follows Metroidvania-like elements, allowing players to access previously unreachable areas with the right traversal items. While there’s no fast travel, shortcuts help to travel quickly. Unlike its predecessor, Salt and Sacrifice introduces online multiplayer, where players can join factions for different experiences, such as hunting down others or summoning enemies. Co-op play is also available via a private password system, allowing two players to team up and complete the campaign without unwanted intrusions.
