Understand the thaumaturge’s flaws

Accessing your flaws is a breeze – press O (or up on the d-pad) to enter the Thaumatology menu, then press X twice to navigate to the flaws section. Initially, you start with your own personal flaws, your pride. As you progress, the possibility of acquiring additional flaws becomes available, each bringing passive benefits, combat advantages, and new dialogue options.

The function of thaumaturgic defects

Once a flaw is acquired, it provides a lasting passive benefit throughout the game. These benefits range from bonus points to dimensional powers or combat advantages. Additionally, flaws can affect dialogue, introducing new dialogue options that can be explored or ignored depending on your preference. There seems to be no obvious downside to embracing flaws, so it’s worth the risk.

A strategic approach to defect acquisition

Strategically speaking, early encounters with the optional tributes in Chapter 2 prove to be advantageous. Completing side quests to capture these entities unlocks their benefits for longer periods of time in the game. Taking advantage of the opportunities presented in this chapter will ensure you have a stronger character as you progress.

Available defects and how to implement them

Several flaws have been discovered, each with its own unique advantages:

Thaumaturgy gameplay

The game’s combat system is turn-based and presents challenges for both human and supernatural enemies.

One unique aspect of the combat system involves the use of ghostly entities known as Tributes. These tributes represent various human flaws, such as recklessness and pride. For example, Recklessness can distract an enemy, but it creates additional risks for the player. Pride, on the other hand, not only damages enemies, but also heals the protagonist Victor at the same time.

In addition to combat, tributes have also been integrated into the dialogue system. Players can use them strategically to manipulate their characters’ flaws, allowing them to gather more information or avoid unnecessary conflict. The results of these interactions depend on the player’s statistics and choices, affecting available dialogue options.

In addition to combat and dialogue, players can also take advantage of Wiktor’s senses by right-clicking. This ability allows them to observe traces left in the game world, including thoughts and knowledge about objects. This acquired knowledge is crucial to solving the game’s mysteries, introducing an investigative element to Thaumaturgy gameplay.
